Everything, Actually

Having finally successfully read my way through everything written so far - I'm fairly certain there was something I was supposed to be doing instead, but oh well - I'm really stumped.

I can't possibly comment on them all, since there isn't anywhere near enough room, but everything that has been written so far is utterly fantastic. All in-character, and alternatively heart-breaking and fun to read. I'm happily familiar with some of the pairings - Romana II/Leela and Frank/Martha, for example - and some are pairings I'd never remotely considered before - Two/Jamie/Zoe/Martha, Chantho/Jabe, Romana II/Mickey, etc - and that's fantastic.

It's one of the reasons I love this fandom so much. There are so many incredibly talented writers, who are just the right amount of strange to make the utterly bizarre perfectly plausible.

Having prompted two of the out-of-left-field 'ships you mention, thankies! That's the genius of Who - it's quite possible to make the spin-the-bottle-bizarre totally work.

[livejournal.com profile] atraphoenix - Oh the longing in so few sentences! And Nyssa's innocence (or perhaps not *g*) beautifully captured.

[livejournal.com profile] carawj - Of course they'd have been investigating the same things! This is lovely and feels in character for them both, especially Sarah's 'go for it but be careful' attitude.

[livejournal.com profile] stunt_muppet - "D'you trust me with me?" <- I love this line, it sounds very Jo-like. It's a really touching bittersweet scene, I think you captured them both very well.

[livejournal.com profile] glinda_penguin - I love how these two seem to balance each other out and still have fun together. Sam's sort-of, not-quite jealousy of Eight and Fitz feels just right too.

[livejournal.com profile] flo_nelja - Garm plushies! Possibly the best idea ever. *cough* Brilliant way to show their similarities and differences. They make a truly adorable couple.

[livejournal.com profile] minerva_fan - I have secret Harry/Sarah love, so of course I adored this. Naturally Sarah would have to make the first move! Very sweet.

[livejournal.com profile] thesecondevil - Hee! Luke's logic is impeccable, Clyde never stood a chance. Practice indeed!

[livejournal.com profile] aris_tgd - You might have broken my brain a little but it was worth it. The last line wins in ways that shouldn't be possible!

[livejournal.com profile] allfireburns's Jack/Rose/Nine: I love the feel of it. It's like an adventure in a few words, but the stronger thing is the beauty, and the nostalgia of it... the discretion, too, which makes it go very well within the series, not being a variation.

[livejournal.com profile] aris_tgd's Six/Ainley!Master: I love the interaction, love the "You really are an incorrigible meddler, even in your own affairs,", "the latest regeneration must have utterly destroyed his color vision", and it fills a plot hole, which is good.

[livejournal.com profile] brewsternorth's Eight/Chronotis: I love Chronotis since I've seen "Shada" the first time, and I was so hapy to see something about him! I love the idea, it's beautiful, it's sad, and at the same time it's what he wanted... This fic made me a little sad and a little happy.

[livejournal.com profile] stunt_muppet's Nine/Adric: I love your characterization of Nine, I love Adric, and the "You can come along then. Even if I don’t say so." was brilliant.

To quote the rules: 4. Crossovers and RPS are both allowed, provided one person in your pairing/trio/etc. is a "Doctor Who" character. So Doctor/historical figure, whether or not that person appeared in the canon, is permissible, I believe.

I've been procrastinating on my feedback, which is stupid because more and more terrific ficlets keep getting posted. Woe. If I don't give a specific shout-out to you, the chances are still good that I really enjoyed your story. That said, these ones deserve special mention:

[livejournal.com profile] doyle_sb4 Donna/Ten -- the voices are perfect! "On what planet does one kiss count as consummating a marriage? Planet Disney? Cinderella World?" in particular had me chortling for quite some time.

[livejournal.com profile] silly_cleo Romana II/Leela -- this is gorgeous. Romana's insecurities, hidden behind her office but always present, play out incredibly well in this story. She finds herself hardening as she freezes and as she hardens it feels as though parts of her are cracking. God, this is beautiful. And somehow, you have managed to express in twenty words exactly what the BF plays were trying to say over the course of almost twenty hours. Great stuff!

[livejournal.com profile] thesecondevil Romana II/Mickey -- fun, and oh so very Mickey. The last line is particularly terrific.

[livejournal.com profile] amaresu Hex/Peri -- This was everything I hoped for in the request. A light, fun and frothy follow-up to "The Veiled Leopard." Thank you for writing this!

Charley/Mel -- I've told you twice before, but third time's the charm. I adore this. Mel deserves so much more of a happy ending than Glitz could give her, and Charley deserves everything. I'm delighted by this vision of them finding happiness together.

[livejournal.com profile] carawj Harry/Martha -- Awww.... I LOVE your Harry! Stumbling, and sweet, and a dinosaur long before he turned twenty. Of course Martha would fall for him!

Donna/Sarah Jane -- I've always been a sucker for awkward morning-after stories, and this one's great. Sarah Jane going into "mum mode" with a woman that she slept with while under the influence brought a huge smile to my face.

Liz/Tosh -- I have a huge fondness for Liz Shaw, and you've captured her to a tee. Her cold put-down of Jack, her awesomeness in saving the day and her cool acceptance of an unconventional relationship ... I approve of it all. Great stuff here!

Ace/Ten -- Ow! Oh God, this hurts. And is beautiful at the same time. But mostly, ouch. (In a good way...)

Rose/Sarah Jane -- I'm not stalking you, I promise. I just ran up a mental list of stories I wanted to review and had no idea how many of them you'd written... Anyways, I really enjoyed this one. The gentle teasing ("Don't mock an old woman") and the caring mutual support both won me over to a pairing that I wouldn't have believed before you tackled it. Mostly I love how this is about two women who actually have far more in common than the Doctor, and how his absence allows them to discover that about themselves.

Ten/Tosh -- I can SO picture this! You have Ten's voice down perfectly, and you're right, he'd love Tosh. I am now firmly in denial of the season finale; THIS IS CANON as far as I'm concerned.

Thank you. I'm glad you liked the Hex/Peri. It was rather fun to write.

I kinda want to do an expanded version of the Charley/Mel one, but I'm not sure I could pull it off. I've never written anything longer that a thousand words or so.

Again thanks.

[livejournal.com profile] rodlox Ace/Rani -- this is so beautifully fucked up. I'm enough of a Seven/Ace 'shipper that I squeed over The Doctor had left Ace here, as Rani's ward; had warned the Rani that if anything happened to his Companion, the Daleks' fate would be mild compared to Rani's., but you've managed to create a relationship beyond this ground rule in an amazingly small number of words. I'm actually in awe of this one.

Rani/Ten -- Ooh, this is creepy but believable. I'm not a huge Rani fan, so it surprises me that two ficlets with her have touched me so deeply, but they have. Good work, for making me care about a character that I normally wouldn't.

Jack/Susan -- I'm still not entirely clear what happened here, and I mean that in a good way. The idea that Susan had such a horrible future with David is tragic and yet compelling; the future you've painted with her sharing a prison with Jack is even more so. And that final line is a killer.

[livejournal.com profile] stunt_muppet Jo/Three -- That sound you hear? That's my heart breaking a bit. I love how you've captured Jo, not blindingly intelligent, but oh, so very, VERY wise. The paragraph about staying, about seeing things through to the end, that quite broke me.

Two/Polly -- This one put a huge grin on my face. The easy camaraderie was delightful, and I'm always a sucker for a self-confident Polly. You'll never convince me that this one didn't actually happen off-screen.

Brig/Liz/Three -- *snicker* I wish I had more cogent feedback, but I don't. Every time I re-read it looking for more articulate feedback, I break out laughing and forget all words. This is a good thing.

[livejournal.com profile] minerva_fan Barbara/Ian -- Oh, this was lovely. I wish I had deeper feedback for you, but I don't. I'm stuck on "aww.... Love them!"

[livejournal.com profile] allfireburns Jack/Rose/Nine -- This is one of my favorites. I can't believe how much you conveyed in so few words. I love the way you have Rose serving as a conduit for the Doctor and Jack, and yet paradoxically manage to show that what they had between the three of them was about far more than her. The ending in particular is a killer. This is nothing short of amazing.

[livejournal.com profile] netgirl_ys2 Martha/Romana II -- How did you take an angsty opening and leave me chortling? And do it naturally and effortlessly? The understated but definite UST was just delicious icing on the cake.

[livejournal.com profile] aris_tgd Two/Jamie/Zoe/Martha -- I'm amazed at how wonderfully you've managed to capture Two's sense of fun and glee, and the childish fun that characterized his TARDIS teams. I love the idea of Martha having a happy ending with my favorite Team TARDIS; thank you for giving me that visual.

[livejournal.com profile] flo_nelja Jack/Mike -- Nice to see that Jack has such good taste! *laughs* Seriously, this was funny and charming and altogether wonderful.

[livejournal.com profile] glinda_penguin Iris/Sam -- I'm not overly familiar with Sam, but I enjoyed this anyway. The idea of a companion abandoning the Doctor and his crusades for Iris's debaucheries pleases me enormously.

Susan/John Hart -- Oh, I have no words for how much I love this. Susan's slight insanity, feeding John's compulsive nature. *shiver* Man, this is GREAT!

[livejournal.com profile] livii Rose/Hex -- *laughing* Oh, you've captured Hex's innocence-mixed-with-smartassness perfectly. I quite adored this.

Ben/Nine -- I have no idea what made you think of this pairing, but it WORKS. It works incredibly well. You have both of them down, and yes, they'd get on really well. I particularly loved how they aren't QUITE shippy because Polly isn't forgotten, but they aren't NOT shippy either. It's a delicate balancing act and you walk it well.

[livejournal.com profile] wiccagirl24 Brig/Leela -- I'm in awe of how PERFECTLY you've captured Leela. This sounds so much like her that I'm half convinced that you've altered an existing transcript of their meeting. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful

[livejournal.com profile] alligatorade Chantho/Yana -- *sniffle* The foreshadowing works REALLY well here, and yet avoids killing the story. I find myself fervently wishing that Chantho was correct, despite knowing that she isn't.

[livejournal.com profile] callmegeoff Jack/River -- You had me from the first paragraph, the first sentence even, and never let go. I adore your vision of River, and it's no surprise to me that Jack would adore her also. The explanation for his missing two years is especially satisfying.

[livejournal.com profile] astraphoenix Leela/Andred -- I can't even tell you how much I love this. The spaces in-between in the Gallifrey plays have left me longing for Leela/Andred fic, and you've filled that need perfectly. I love that Andred sees Leela for what she is, not some Victorian glorified noble savage, and loves her for HER. I'm really glad that I got the opportunity to read this.

Ten/Zoe -- Oh, how much do I want this to be true! Ten checking up on Zoe, helping her come to her full potential... I'll choose to believe this until given reason otherwise.

[livejournal.com profile] settiai Liz/Mickey -- This should be too cracked out to work, but it does. While the Doctor never denigrated Liz's intelligence the way he did Mickey's, she was definitely eclipsed by him in a similar way. I can see them forming a connection and, yes, Liz would still be beautiful and desirable in her sixties. Good job!

[livejournal.com profile] redscharlach Doctor/Little Shop -- Bwa-ha-ha! I loved this, quite a helluva lot. Cracked, yes, but still very true to the Tenth Doctor. You've sold me on a new ship!

Donna/Sarah Jane - [livejournal.com profile] carawj - This is adorable and wonderfully in character, right from the first paragraph with Donna complaining about her hangover and Sarah Jane going into Mum-mode, and I loved the way it fed into canon. The funny thing is, right before I got around to reading this story, I was just watching SJA and thinking about her and Donna and Adipose Industries...

Andrea Yates/Sarah Jane - [livejournal.com profile] carawj - It's all sweet and adorable up until the last few lines and then it breaks my heart. AND it's completely in keeping with the tone of the episode, which is just wonderful.
